So off we went. We took the children to Trier this weekend to see the Roman Ruins.
One of the places we visited was Porta Nigra. It is a 2nd century Roman city gate. Erected in 180 AD. Its name was given in the middle ages due to its weathered color. It means black gate.
Trier is Germany's oldest city. We saw a lot of really neat ruins. We visited The Trier Cathedral built by Constantine. It is the oldest church in Germany. The church was very impressive and huge, It looked more like a fortress. We also went to an old roman amphitheater. LillieGrace was a little freaked out about going down in the "Gladiator pit". as romantic as those times are portrayed in movies one cant help notice how very harsh life must have been.
